Norwalk, CT... Henry "Hank" Joseph Hanacek, 84, died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at the Webster Manor Nursing Home in Webster, Mass.
The son of the late Joseph A. and Josephine (Vach) Hanacek, "Hank" was born in Port Chester, N.Y., and raised in Byram (Greenwich), CT. A 1944 graduate of Greenwich High School, he served in World War II as a seaman first class with the U.S. Navy as a liberty ship gunner and was awarded the European Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
After the war, Hank was a sign painter in Bridgeport, CT., then was a painter for Sorenson & Co. of Norwalk, Conn., and worked as a quality control inspector at Machlette Laboratory of Stamford, Conn. He was also the owner of the Foam Rubber Shop in both Norwalk and Stamford, and the Viking Dog and Cat Supply Shop in Norwalk.
He leaves behind his son, Robert J. Hanacek of Dudley, Mass., and a grandson, Mark A. Hannon of Willimantic, CT. Hank's sister, Norma H. Young, and his nephew, Chandler Young, both of Chicago, IL., and brother George Hanacek of Greenwich, CT., all predeceased him.
