Sturbridge...John W. R. Dawber, age 69, of the Sturbridge Retirement Community died Saturday after being stricken ill at his Winter home in Davenport, Florida. He leaves his wife of 49 1/2 yrs Jeanne (Parent) Dawber. They would have celebrated their 50th anniversay Oct. 29th. He also leaves 2 sons John and his wife Karen Dawber,and James Dawber, and his daughter Judith Fontaine and her husband Andy all of Southbridge, and his Fresh Air "adopted" daughter Darlene Gaston of Brooklyn, NY, 3 grandchildren Michael Lasorsa of Chesterfield, VA, Matthew Lasorsa of Southbridge and Brittany Dawber of Southbridge, and 2 great-grandchildren, and 2 brothers Alfred Dawber of Whitehall, IL, and Wintston Dawber of Barton, VT.
John was born in St. Keyne, Cornwall, England, son of Alexander and Constance (Davis) Dawber, but was raised in Charlton, MA. He was employed as a truck driver for Allied Systems car carriers. He was a longtime member of Notre Dame Church and after moving to Sturbridge attended St. Anne's/St. Patrick Church in Fiskdale.
John was a member of the Quinebaug Valley Campers, he was also an avid New England Patriots fan attending many games traveling in the Spirit of New England with his friends, but most of all he was a loving family man enjoying spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Thursday (Feb. 18th) from 4-8PM at Sansoucy Funeral Home 40 Marcy St. Southbridge. The funeral Mass will be Friday, Feb.19th, at 10AM at Notre Dame Church 446 Main St. Southbridge. Burial will follow in St. Anne's Cemetery in Sturbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital 55 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104-2396 or Center of Hope 1 North St. Southbridge, MA 01550.
