Southbridge- Wilfred P Lavoie was taken home to our Lord early September 11 after a short illness. He is predeceased by his wife Rose (Gibeault) Lavoie who he has long awaited to see.
Wilfred was born and raised in Southbridge, son of Phillip and Corinne (Chouinard) Lavoie. He was a WWII US Navy veteran who served in Squadron No.27 on a PT Boat in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion Post 31, and the VFW Post 6055. Mr. Lavoie received several medals for services to his country by former President Bill Clinton, Gov. Mitt Romney and many local town officials. After his military service he was a police officer for the Town of Southbridge for 25yrs. He had a passion for wood and leather carving. Mr.Lavoie leaves Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gibeault who have cared for him for several years due to loss of eye sight. He also leaves a sister Yvette Fitzgibbons of Webster, Rolande Sweet of Spencer, and a brother Raymond Lavoie of California. Mr. Lavoie was predeceased by his siblings Lionel Lavoie, Annette Parent, Rita Daignault. Mr. Lavoie also leaves many nieces and nephews and many close friends. Mr. Lavoie's funeral with Military Honors will be Monday Sept. 14th from Sansoucy Funeral Home 40 Marcy St. Southbridge with a Mass at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church 30 Charlton St. Southbridge. Burial will follow at St. George Cemetery Paige Hill Rd. Southbridge. Calling Hours will be Sunday Sept. 13th, at Sansoucy Funeral Home from 5-7pm. Flowers are acceptable, or donations made to the American Cancer Society 17 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701. Mr. Lavoie will be dearly missed by all but will never be forgotten.
