Betsy Bonilla Obituary

Springfield- Betsy Bonilla, 53, departed this life on Sunday, September 13th, 2020. Betsy was born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 24th, 1967, to her parents Israel Bonilla and Margarita Agosto Santiago. Betsy was a joy to be around, she had the ability to make you laugh no matter how sad or bad the situation was. She was always a doer, independent and very strong willed. Nothing stopped her from doing what she needed to do, not health, money, doctors and definitely not her circumstances. She was a devoted mother and sister which was fundamental through her walk in life. She definitely struggled with many health issues for many years but nobody would hardly ever notice because she was a master at disguising it with her charismatic ways of caring and putting her needs aside to help others. She walked her path in life with so much compassion for others and always tried to find solutions for every day challenges but nothing meant more to her than the love for family. Family was life. She enjoyed celebrating all events no matter how big or small they were. She wanted to incorporate as many people as she could in her life and share her joy for being alive. She will always be remembered for the immense presence that was felt when she walked into a room, for her loud mouth as she would call it, she was designed that way and it was her pride. She would want to be remembered as the light in someone's life, the simplest soul to love without expecting anything back. Her work in life is seen as a girl scout leader for many years, the team she coached in soccer and the advocacy work she helped with for autism. She is survived by her children, Keisha, Kiara and Kristofer Hernández and her beloved grandchildren, Tyliana Bilal, Samaia & Ariya Figueroa. As well as her close knit family, Mother and Stepfather: Margarita & Luis Santiago Sisters: Daisy Reyes & Yahira Santiago, Nieces and Nephews: Jorell, Jenna & Jariell Reyes, Abimael & Elianna Santiago-Nunez, Jackie & Jimmy Vanegas. Godchildren: Derrick Garcia, Zanti Vanegas and all her friends whom she has met through all her years and held dear in her life. Calling hours will be on Friday, September 25, 2020, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at North End Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 130 State Street, Springfield, MA. Burial will be private.
