Donald G Ashey

Donald G. Ashey Sr., 83, departed this earth on Friday, October 9, 2020, with his loving family by his side. He now joins his wife Gill Ashey who predeceased him on March 31, 2019. Donald and his twin brother Ronald (predeceased) were born on November 6, 1936, to the late Sidney and Elizabeth (Phelps) Ashey in Springfield, MA. He was also predeceased by six siblings and a son Donald Jr.. Prior to his retirement in 2002, Donald was employed at the Goodwill Industries as a truck driver for 28 years. He enjoyed his retirement by making birdhouses, going fishing, watching the Patriots play football and old movies, and spending time with his faithful dog "Pepper". Donald is survived by his children Donna (Foster) Lee, Mary Ayala, Pearl Harry, John (Donna) Ashey of Springfield, Christopher (Antoinette) Bettro of Chicopee, Jane Ashey of Westfield, Tony (Cindy) Hagood of CO, and stepdaughters Debbie King of MA, Cheryl and Karen Fountain of TX. In addition, he leaves behind 31 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Donald's family will miss his infectious smile and kind spirit. The family would like to extend a special thanks to family friend Alice McHugh and the Baystate Medical Center's staff for their dedication and the excellent care that was provided to our father. A celebration of life will be held at Puerta Del Cielo Funeral Home, 730 State St., Springfield, MA on October 20, 2020, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by his burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.
