Agawam - Henry Lee Washington, Sr., 76, departed this life on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2019 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Henry was born in Brighton, South Carolina on May 15, 1943 to his parents Willie Washington and Irabelle (Housey) Washington-White. Henry was educated in the South Carolina school system up to the 3rd grade before leaving school. With very little education Henry proved to be a wise, gifted and successful businessman. He was an accomplished contractor, painter, property owner and restaurant owner. During his journey through this life he found hope and faith in the Muslim teachings and at times would drive to New Haven with his brother Willie to fellowship with the brethren. Henry was a loving and disciplined father to his children and to those he helped give guidance to. He enjoyed fishing, apprenticeship, cooking and was not afraid of a hard day of work. He was a musician and member of the family band named “The Hitchhikers” of which he played the lead guitar and even sang. He both loved and was loved by his family and was respected in the community. Henry played a significant role in the Mr. Fish restaurant legacy and many people in Springfield affectionately called him “Mr. Fish”.Henry found love during his time on earth and was previously married to Betty J. Washington and Diedrah Brown. Henry was preceded in death by his loving parents Willie and Irabelle, and his siblings James Housey, Willie “Junior” Housey and Nathan Housey. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his 3 sons; Lamont Henry Johnson (Shamieka), Henry (Jackie) Washington, Jr. and Stephen Washington, 3 daughters; Yvette (Ronnie) Tate, Linda Spencer his niece whom he raised as his daughter and Takara Washington; 6 brothers; Josephus (Jeannette) Housey, Sr., John H. (Patricia) Housey, Sr., Franklin (Ruth) Housey, Sr., Wesley (Patricia) White, Sr., Charles White and Arthur (Evon) White; a sister; Mary White; 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Calling hours will be on Wednesday July 31, 2019, 2019 from 1:00 pm 3:00 pm at Puerta Del Cielo® Funeral Home 730 State Street Springfield, MA 01109. Disposition will be at the convenience of the family.
