Of Cambridge, passed away Sunday morning September 10th, 2017 with his loving family by his side in the Watertown Health Center at the age of 67. Born on November 17, 1949 in Cambridge; son of the late Richard W. Summerhayes and Mary (Cunniff) Summerhayes, Richard lived for a period of in the Brighton section of Boston and Abington before moving to Waltham where he lived most of his life until moving to Cambridge 9 years ago.  Richard attended Waltham Schools and had been employed as a Electrical Supervisor for the General Connector Corporation in Newton for over 25 years. He was a member of the Electrical Platters Society. He was a sports fanatic and loved to follow all Boston sports teams but especially the New England Patriot's. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, going to the Wells Beach in Maine and traveling to visit family & friends in Canada. Through the years Richard was part of the Friends of Bill W. He is survived by his devoted & loving children Gregg Summerhayes and his wife Tracey of Belmont and Lori A. (Summerhayes) Nelson and her husband Mark of Waltham, his dear sister Patricia "Patti Ann" Maillett and her husband Reginald, 4 cherished grandsons and by many cousins, nieces & nephews. Richard was predeceased by wife Catherine (Doucette) Summerhayes and his partner of many years Juan R. Adornoand his daughter Sandra Garvey. Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Richard’s Life from the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Friday morning Sept. 15th at 8:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joseph's Church, 130 Common Street, Belmont at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting Hours will be held in the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday Sept. 14th from 4 – 8 p.m. Parking attendants on duty.   In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Richard’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701
