A Funeral Mass for Bernard Thomas Loughran, Sr., Esq., 83, will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, in the Church of Saint Joseph, Belmont.Mr. Loughran, son of the late Frank and Nora (Ward) Loughran, was born in Boston and grew up in St. Mark's Parish in Dorchester. He graduated from Boston College High School in 1942, Boston College, Chestnut Hill in 1945, and from Harvard Law School in 1948. In 1951, he began his career in law at the Employer's Mutual Liability Insurance Company of Wisconsin, where he ultimately became the New England Branch Legal Manager. In 1971, he co-founded the law firm of Loughran and Corbett Attorneys, Inc., Watertown, Massachusetts. Mr. Loughran retired from the firm in 1994. Mr. Loughran was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Middlesex Bar Association, West Suburban Bar Association (formerly known as the Watertown Waltham Weston & Newton Bar Association) (past president) and the Workers' Compensation Trial Bar of Massachusetts (past president). Mr. Loughran was very well regarded and respected among his colleagues and clients, as he had a brilliant legal mind and was a true gentleman.Mr. Loughran, a resident of Watertown before moving to Belmont in 1964, was also a winter resident at Juno Beach, Florida. He died at the Neville Center at Fresh Pond, Cambridge, on Wednesday morning, July 2, 2008, after an extended illness. He was the beloved husband for 52 years of the late Marion R. (Lapsley) Loughran who died in April 2002; devoted father of James F. Loughran and his wife Karen of Framingham, Edward B. Loughran of Hobe Sound, Fla., Marcia N. Greeley and her husband Gerard M. of Waltham, Bernard T. Loughran, Jr., Esq. and his wife Sandra of Belmont and Paul V. Loughran of Plantation, Fla. He was also loved by 8 grandchildren : Christopher J. Loughran, Darren G. Greeley, Matthew B. Greeley, Kara E. Greeley, Molly K. Greeley, Stephanie M. Loughran, Patrick B. Loughran, and Kerry E. Loughran; and was the dear brother of the late Francis J. Loughran and his surviving wife Elizabeth "Betty" Loughran of Watertown.The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Tuesday at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in the Church of St. Joseph, 124 Common St., Belmont. Interment will be in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours will be on Monday, July 7th from 4-8 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.
