A Funeral Mass for Bert Louis Waple, 60, will be held on Monday, July 27, 2009, in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown.
Mr. Waple was born in Winthrop and grew up in East Boston. After graduation from Boston Trade High School, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While on active duty, Mr. Waple worked heavy artillery overseas in Vietnam in DaNang and the Mekong Delta. In addition to the National Defense Service Medal, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device. He was honorably discharged from active duty as a Sergeant and served in the Army Reserve.
Mr. Waple loved his family especially doting on his grandchildren and, as a pastime, raised Bonsai plants. He was an Electrical Technician for Raytheon Company for the past 30 years leaving last year due to illness. A former resident of Newton for many years, he moved to Watertown 10 years ago. Mr. Waple, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, died of cancer in the Newton-Wellesley Hospital on Thursday, July 23, 2009.
He was the beloved husband for 23 years of Joan I. (Feeley) Waple; devoted father of Stephanie DeSantis and Anne Caira both of Watertown; loving grandfather of Ashley Caira and Alexis Caira; loving son of Catherine (O'Leary) Waple of Shrewsbury formerly of Roslindale and the late John Waple; and dear brother of William Waple of Saugus, Robert Waple of Marlboro, Edward Waple of Shrewsbury, James Waple of No. Attleboro, and Linda Waple of Shrewsbury.
The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rt. 20, Watertown, on Monday at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 O'clock in the Church of St. Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown. Interment will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday, July 26th from 3-7 P.M. in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.
