Obituary for Eva Frances Jones

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Church of St. Joseph’s, Belmont on Saturday August 17, 2013 for Eva Frances (Hartnett) Jones who died peacefully Monday evening, August 12, 2013 in the St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham. Eva was 102 years old.

Born June 21, 1911 in Boston, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late Wade H. Jones, Sr. and loving mother to Ann Marie Jones of Durham, NH, Wade and Gayle Jones of Aiken, S.C., Elinor Lottero of Belmont and Judy and Mike Brady of Hill, NH., and the late Philip Jones. "Gagee" is also survived by her grandchildren: Kevin Jones, Christine LeBlanc and her husband Jamie, Karen Buchanan and her husband Kevin, Matthew Jones, Amy McCarron and her husband Richard, Catherine Jones and Sean Brady. Also her seven great grandchildren: Carter, Connor, Jack, Max, Ellie, Eva and Nolan.

She was born in South Boston to Eva and John Hartnett, the fourth of five children. Her siblings: Catherine, John, William and Rose all predeceased her. As a young woman she developed an enthusiasm for swimming and tennis, which continued for many years.

She graduated from Boston Business School in 1931 and married Wade Jones on June 10, 1939. Their happy marriage lasted for 60 years until his death in 2000. Eva worked for the Town of Watertown for 20 years, retiring in 1981 as Assistant Treasurer. Upon retirement she and Wade had the opportunity to travel extensively.

Eva was a parishioner at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church in Watertown for 35 years, where she served as Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the parish council. Her many volunteer interests included Sancta Maria Nursing Facility and the Hosmer School in Watertown where she assisted in a 1st grade classroom for many years. Eva's greatest joy was her family and spending time together with them. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.

Visiting hours at MacDonald Rockwell MacDonald Funeral Service, 270 Main St., Saturday, August 17 from 8:30 am to 10:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Joseph's Church, 130 Common St., Belmont, MA at 10:30 am
