A funeralvisitation will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 for Mr. Fazal A. Chowdhry Of Cambridge who died April 13, 2010 at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital from complications fighting a month-long illness at the age of 82.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Irene Corman of Lexington; his nephew who he raised as his son, Guli Arshad, and daughter-in-law Sara Arshad of Lincoln. He was a loving grandfather to Shergul Arshad and his wife, Alison Beebe Arshad, and their sons Luca and Matteo of Lexington; Shehime Arshad of Lincoln and Yasmin Arshad of Cambridge. He is also survived by his nieces, Sophia Safdar Vanella of Milan, Italy, and Nishat Ifzah of his native and beloved Mohla, Pakistan; sisters Rasul Begum and Choudrani Zubeida of Wazirabad, Pakistan, and nephew Parvez Arshad Cheema of Mohla, Pakistan.
Fazal had many interests but his first love was art. He had a great sense of color and composition, and was a consummate painter in both oil and watercolor. He received a master of fine arts from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in the mid 1960s, where he later taught. He also taught art at Garland Junior and Simmons colleges in Boston. In the 1970s, he exhibited a painting at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. His paintings brought joy to his family and friends.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 17 at MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Service home, 6 Riverside St., Watertown Square. Private burial on Sunday, April 18 at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.
