A Funeral Mass for Ida Marie (Gatti) Manzelli, 97, will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, in the Church of Saint Luke, Belmont.
Mrs. Manzelli, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elena (Malvisi) Gatti, was born in Cambridge. She was a graduate of Somerville High School and has resided in Watertown since 1944. In later years she became the receptionist and bookkeeper at her husband’s company, Manzelli Oil in Watertown and in later became a volunteer in many organizations.
Throughout the years, Mrs. Manzelli was active in the Watertown Community and was named “Volunteer of the Year” in 1990 by the Watertown Chamber of Commerce. In an article in the Watertown Sun ofJune 1990, she was described as “Volunteer Extraordinaire” and the article further detailed how she spent virtually every day of the week volunteering by stuffing envelopes for the Chamber of Commerce, answering telephones for the Sons of Italy, and delivering mail and visiting patients at Mount Auburn Hospital. She also participated in the United Cerebral Palsy Telethon and was a regular attendee and member of the Watertown Women’s Club, the Watertown Garden Club, Watertown Senior Neighbors, and Saint Luke’s Sodality. Mrs. Manzelli was a member and officer in the Cornelia dei Gracchi Ladies Lodge, Order Sons of Italy in America, Watertown.
Mrs. Manzelli in later years moved to assisted living in Lexington and then to the Mashpee Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mashpee where she died on Thursday, April 1, 2010.
She was the beloved wife of the late Attilio M. Manzelli who died in February 1979; devoted mother of Robert A. Manzelli and his wife Barbara of Watertown, Francis P. Manzelli and his wife Jane of West Barnstable, Thomas P. Manzelli and his wife Arlene of Bedford and Marilyn Cookson and her husband John of Marstons Mills. Dear sister of Anna Marcelli of Mashpee, and the late Rena McHugh, Peter Gatti, Arthur Gatti, Henry Gatti and Dorothy Gatti. She is also survived by 11 loving grandchildren: Jeffrey Cookson, Craig Cookson, Marisa Mitchell, Jayna Manzelli, Laurel Murphy, Leah Adams, Elena DeAngelis, Erik Manzelli, Marc Manzelli, Michael Manzelli, Michelle Bodoni; 20 great-grandchildren and her in-laws: Frank and Dorothy Manzelli and Ruth Gatti.She will forever be remembered as loving, caring, and kind with uncompromising honesty, integrity, and character.She will be sorely missed by family, friends, neighbors and all who were lucky enough to have known her.
The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Tuesday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Church of Saint Luke, 132 Lexington St., Belmont. Interment will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
Calling hours will be on Monday, April 5th from 4-8 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.
