Obituary for M. Muriel Canavan

A Funeral Mass for M. Muriel Canavan, 88, will be celebrated on Friday, February 17, 2012 in the church of Saint Patrick in Watertown, MA

Mrs. Canavan, daughter of the late Harold and Catherine A. (Cummings) Kerns, was born in Newton on October 30, 1923. She was a lifelong resident of Watertown at 97 Galen Street before moving to Waltham six years ago. She was a graduate of Rosary Academy, class of 1941. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at the J. H. Burke Company in Allston, MA, where she met her husband Tom. She raised two children while also serving as a long-time Watertown Town Meeting Member from the South Side of Watertown. Later, her children having gone off to college, she returned to the work force as a Bookkeeper at St. Sebastian‚??s Country Day School in Newton until her retirement in 1992. She loved and looked forward to summers with her children and grandchildren, as well as friends, at Priscilla Beach in Plymouth, MA.

She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas B. Canavan. Devoted mother of Mark J. Canavan and his wife Mary E. O‚??Neill of Plymouth, MA and Maureen Cyr and her husband Mark G. Cyr from Farmington, ME. Loving grandmother of Robert K. Cyr, Keelin M. Trask and her husband Arthur, and Kyle M. Cyr. She also has a stepsister, Noreen Imoto of Chino, CA.

Funeral from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main Street on Rte 20 in Watertown on Friday at 10:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in the Church of St. Patrick at 212 Main Street in Watertown. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:45 PM. Visiting hours are Thursday, February 16 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM.
