Obituary for Marion A. Roberts

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2009 for Mrs. Marion A. Roberts. Mrs. Roberts was born in Boston, a daughter of the late Robert and Anna (Murphy) Wilson. She grew up in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School. She has been a Watertown resident for over 55 years and was the 5th generation in her family of Watertown residents. Marion was a very active member of Watertown politics for many years, once being unofficially named "The Mayor of the South Side" and the "Tenth Councilor" of the Watertown Town Council. She served as warden for Precinct 6 and also on various committees and commissions many of which were responsible for making Watertown the great town it is today. She will be greatly missed by her many friends in the Brighton Center area who knew her as "Nana" where she visited her daughter's beauty shop every day.
She died on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the age of 84 in the Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton resulting from an injury sustained during a fall in her home.
She was the beloved wife of 53 years of the late William J. "Buddy" Roberts (IUOE Local #4, 50 year member); devoted mother of Barbara A. and Lynda M. Roberts both of Watertown, Kenneth M. and his wife Kathleen (Armatruda) Roberts of Franklin and Mark P. and his wife Mary Jo (Gertz) Roberts of Bellingham; cherished grandmother of Christopher D. and Nicholas W. Roberts; dear sister of Alice M. Kidik of Brighton and the late Robert J. "Sarge" Wilson, Walter B. "Punky" Wilson and Paul J. Wilson. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home in WATERTOWN SQUARE at 6 Riverside St. (cnr. of No. Beacon St.) Watertown on Monday at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 O'Clock in the Church of St. Patrick, 212 Main St. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 PM. Contributions may be made in Marion's memory to the Alzheimer's Assn. of Mass. 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472 www.alzmass.org.
