A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday November 19, 2013 in the Church of St. Patrick, Watertown for Mary Elizabeth (Gray) Gildea.
Mrs. Gildea, a daughter of the late Charles B. and Martha (Fennell) Gray, died in the Mount Auburn Hospital on Wednesday November 13, 2013. Age 83.
A long time Watertown resident, Mary was born in Dorchester, graduated from St, Gregory’s High School in 1949. On September 1, 1951, she married her soul mate, William T. Gildea in St Gregory’s Church, Dorchester.
Mary worked as a dental assistant in South Boston, a nurse’s aide at Carney hospital in Dorchester, and volunteered at St. Elizabeth’s hospital in Brighton for ten years. She loved to crochet, and made over 100 afghans for her family and friend over the years. She was also a member of .the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Inc. Division # 14.
Her family spent many vacations in Hampton Beach, NH, and she recently celebrated her 80th Birthday at The Irish Village in Yarmouth.
She was the beloved wife of William T. Gildea for 62 years. Devoted mother of Susan Calden and her husband Kevin of Watertown, William Gildea, Jr and his late wife Maura (Blodgett) of Acton, Patricia Kennedy and her husband Bernard of Derry, NH, Maribeth Gildea and her partner Julie Anderson of Chester, NH and Laura Morrison and her husband Robert of Framingham. Loving Nana of Jen & Chris Calden, Kathleen, Lauren, Brigid & the late Liam Gildea, Bernard, Brian, Kaitlyn & Brendan Kennedy and Sean Morrison. Dear sister of the late Charles B. Gray, Frances Ryan, Thomas, John & Joseph Thibaut.
