Obituary for Wilfred F. Doucette

A funeral Mass for Wilfred Francis Doucette will be celebrated on Monday December 29, 2008, in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Newton.

He was the beloved husband for 63 years of Dorothy R. (Thomas) Doucette; devoted father of Patricia R. Kelly and her late husband, Joseph, of Watertown, Warren D. Doucette of Newton, Kenneth W. Doucette and his wife, Maureen of Newton, Thomas F. Doucette and his wife Patricia of Marlborough, and Janice L. Volante and her late husband, Gary of Sudbury; he was also loved by 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the loving son of the late Daniel D. and Mary E. (LeBlanc) Doucette; and dear brother of the late Catherine Quinn, Florence Danforth and Joseph P. Doucette.
He died in Caritas-St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Boston, on Tuesday, December 23, 2008. He was 87 years old.
Born in Newton and a lifelong resident of Newton, he was a graduate of St. Mary High School in Waltham. Mr. Doucette enlisted in the US Army in 1939 and served during World War II in the 747th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapon Battalion until he was honorably discharged at the end of the war. He was a Scientific Glass-Blower at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge until his retirement. His service spanned over 40 years, and at the end of his career at MIT, he also served as an instructor in Scientific Glass-Blowing. Mr. Doucette was a long time member of the American Legion Nonantum Post 440 in Newton; a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 167 in Newton; and a parishioner for many years at the former St. Jean Parish, Newton. He was an active follower and supporter of his grandchildren's sportsand school activities.
The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Monday, December 29, 2008, at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St., Newton. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:45 PM.

Calling hours will be on Sunday December 28, 2008 from 2-6PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street, Rte 20, Watertown. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.
