Jane Garfield Obituary

Garfield, Margot , 73, of Newton, Massachusetts, has succumbed to breast cancer after a courageous battle that demonstrated her indomitable spirit and stubborn resolve. Margot graduated from the University of Michigan and Simmons University. For many decades, she had a successful private psychotherapy practice. Later, she was privileged to also be a member of the Staff of Health Relations Service where she was part of their clinical practice. Margot formed very close personal relationships with family, friends, professional colleagues and patients due to her intelligence, compassion and unwavering concern for others. She was blessed with a large group of dedicated friends whom she loved deeply and who returned her love in kind. Margot is survived by her daughter Olivia Netsky; by her brother Gerry Garfield, his wife Whitney and their daughter Nika; by her sister-in-law, Diana Garfield; by her niece Stephanie Garfield, her husband Giles Krill and their daughters Celeste and Avery; and by her nephew Jeremy Garfield, his wife Kelley, and their children Tyler, Connor, Lindsey and Amanda. Margot is predeceased by her parents Merle and Ben Garfield, and by her nephew Jamie Garfield. In her final months, Margot has been blessed with the love and care of Tara Reyes, her devoted caregiver and friend. A service in Margot’s honor will be held at the First Unitarian Society in Newton, 1326 Washington Street, Newton, Massachusetts, at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Contributions may be made in Margot’s memory to a charity of choice or to Doctors Without Borders.
