Christopher Scherer

It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Christopher Michael “Chris” Scherer, age 48, announces the passing of our dear son, brother, uncle and friend on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at Bronson Battle Creek in Battle Creek, MI. He was born September 27, 1971 in Jacksonville, FL the son of Jerry Lee Scherer and Caroline (Smith) Scherer. He is survived by his mother: Caroline Scherer of Hastings, MI; his brother: Phillip J. & Sherry Scherer of Battle Creek, MI; his sister: Karrie Kidder of Hastings, MI; two uncles: John F. Lawhead of Battle Creek, MI; and Chuck Benedict of Hastings, MI. He was preceded in death by his father and uncle: Robert H. Lawhead. Christopher graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1991, where he ran Cross Country and was manager of the football team. He had some college at KCC studying radio broadcasting and radio production Christopher most recently had been a delivery driver for Dunkin Donuts in Urbandale for about a year and a half. He worked as a bagger for the former Felpausch store in Pennfield. Before that he had been a weekly Zone Manager delivery man for the BC Shopper News for about 15years, had worked delivering donuts for Dunkin Donuts for 8 years and then worked delivering for Tom's Donuts for about a month. He was a member of the Battle Creek Motorcycle Club on the dirt track on Waubascon Road, he is a member of First Church of the Nazarene (Beadle Lake Road) and attended Sunday School class, most recently he attended North Avenue Church of God, where he worked with the computer for the songs to be sung for worship and in the sound booth. He enjoyed going to the library ---- doing research on jobs, checking his email and engaging his Facebook page. He has helped with the races at the Motorcycle Club in the spring, is a crew member with David Moore from Three Rivers who owned the hot air balloon called “Rainbow Twist” for the past 13 years. He was a former Boy Scout with Troop 327 and then member of Troop 312 which met at the old VFW hall on Hamblin Avenue; he was a Life Scout and also member of the Order of the Arrow. No visitation or funeral services are planned at this time. Cremation has been conducted with burial of cremains later in the Barryville Cemetery.
