Winifred Collins
Winifred J. Collins, 87, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, February 20, 2010 at her home. She was born June 4, 1922 in Battle Creek the daughter of Arlington and Murriel (Parrish) Hamacher. She married James W. Collins on March 18, 1939 in Angola, Indiana and he preceded her in death on September 15, 1990. Winifred was a Mom and homemaker all of her life and dotted over her children. Winifred attended VanNocker one room school and Southwestern Junior High. She attended Fairfax Baptist Church and still enjoyed reading her Bible. Winifred’s family always spent Christmas Eve and family gatherings at her house. Winifred had never driven in her whole life, her husband, James, was teaching her and she hit the porch so she gave up driving. In her younger days, she enjoyed reading. She was a very loving, caring person and on many occasions would take family members in when they needed help. She is survived by her children, Murriel (David) Delaney of Battle Creek, Shirley A. Prough of Battle Creek, Sandra L. (Bill) Wilson of Albion, Thomas (Ruby) Collins of Battle Creek, 13 grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Wilma "Billie" Berkimer; great-great granddaughters, Courtney Wilson, Cheyanne Lind; brothers: Fred, David, Ernest "Ernie" and Delbert Hamacker; sisters, Fannie Bruce, Thelma Davison, Josephine Collins, Vivian Goodnight, Virginia Davison, Margaret Fales O'Dell, Stella Marie Stiff and Beulah Hamacher Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Tuesday from 1:00 - 5:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1:00 P.M. at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with Karen Ogden officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
