Sheila Dianne Kipp

Sheila Dianne (Colyar) Kipp, age 80, went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2020. She was born in March 1940 to Rex Luella Colyar, their only child. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband Mike, her parents and infant son Joel Douglas, grandson Ryan, and daughter in-law Kelly. She is survived by her children, Michael, Todd, Joseph, Steven, Scott, and Matthew, all of Battle Creek; two step-children Diana (Blewett) Smyth and Susan Swafford, grandchildren Aubrey, Nathan, Michael F, Tyler, Kelsey, Bridgette, Kourtney, Landon, Katie & Tabor Smyth, Steven Swafford and Marissa Martinez. Sheila was a devoted wife and loving mother, caring for her children and as a foster mother to 327 foster children and many neonatal addicted infants over the course of 26 years. She served as trainer and treasurer of the Michigan Foster and Adoptive Parents Association, and served on the Family Enrichment Center board for several years. She and her husband started Kipp Refuse Inc., where their company was the leader in Calhoun County in offering curbside karts as part of their service. They sold the business in 2001 after 17 successful years. Her favorite pastime was music, singing in Battle Creek A cappella choir in high school. She worked as a surgical nurse at Leila Hospital, Lakeview General Hospital, Bronson Hospital Kalamazoo, Gulfport Memorial in Gulfport, Mississippi, and Hadley Hospital in Washington D.C. She was in the first Nursing Graduating Class at KCC. She enjoyed gardening, walks on the beach in Myrtle Beach, and singing in the Choir at First Wesleyan church. She also served as treasurer in the food pantry operation, and was coordinator for Hi Hands Compassionate Ministry Center. Sheila was known for her kindness, gentle nature, beautiful spirit, and inner strength. “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like Eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31. A visitation will be held at Baxter Funeral & Cremation, on Friday June 19, 2020, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to, The United States Marines “Toys for Tots” program.
