Veronica Wheeler Obituary

Veronica Wheeler, age 74, of Battle Creek, Michigan, formerly of Albion, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Evergreen Senior Care and Rehab Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. She was born May 21, 1946 to Thomas and Elizabeth (Ridley) Foster in Albion, Michigan. She married Harvey Wheeler on June 8, 1968. He survives. Veronica graduated from Albion High School in 1964 and attended Grand Rapids Junior College and Kellogg Community College. She worked as a switchboard operator at Michigan Bell in Battle Creek and at Albion Community Hospital. She was employed as a cashier at Felpausch Food Center in Albion for 14 years and retired from there in 1992. Upon retirement, Veronica volunteered for several organizations in the Albion community. She especially loved serving as mentor for the HOST program, which focused on helping students who struggled with reading. She was also a member of the ELT Club in Albion. Veronica enjoyed traveling and had a passion for cooking. She watched cooking shows faithfully and was adventurous in trying new recipes, much to her family’s delight. Her greatest joy was being a “Glamma” to her grandchildren. Veronica leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Harvey Wheeler of Battle Creek; daughters, Dr. Tiffany R. Wheeler of Lexington, Kentucky, and Erica (Prentice) Pollard of Potomac, Maryland; her beloved grandchildren, granddaughter, Shelby Pollard and grandsons, Brooks Pollard and Cameron Pollard; sister, Beverly Gibson of Grand Prairie, Texas; special aunt, Mable Grant of Battle Creek; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Simmons of Glenside, Pennsylvania, Mattie Simmons of Brigantine, New Jersey, and Shirley Wheeler of Indianapolis, Indiana; brothers-in-law, Calvin Wheeler of Albion, Alton “Rinny” Wheeler of Augusta, Georgia, and Darryl (Grace) Wheeler of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Rufus Foster, Dr. Allen Jackson, Sr., Thomas Foster, Jr., and Rayfield Foster, Sr.; and her sisters, Anna Tyler and Barbara Washington. Veronica also adored her Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Reggie Miller Wheeler, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge at age 15 on December 4, 2018. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a memorial service for Veronica will be held for immediate family members only (spouse, children, and grandchildren) at Baxter Funeral Home in Battle Creek, Michigan on Thursday, December 3, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website so that others can attend virtually. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Veronica Wheeler to Lewis Chapel A.M.E. Church in Albion, Michigan, or the Humane Society of South Central Michigan in Battle Creek, Michigan.
