Bessie Marie Young, 94 passed away peacefully Sunday, May 7, 2017 at her home in Masonville Place. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM Friday, May 12, 2017 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Jennifer Fair of the United Church of Christ in Tekonsha officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service Friday, beginning at 10:00 AM. Bessie was born January 26, 1923 to Mr. and Mrs. John Price in Washtenaw County. She graduated from Quincy High School and then continued her education earning her RN Degree from Mercy College of Nursing. Bessie did her practical training at Leila Post Hospital in Battle Creek before taking a nursing position at the Community Health Center of Branch County in the surgical unit. On April 16, 1950 she married the love of her life, Raymond E. Young in Coldwater. Bessie retired in the mid 1950’s to work on the family farm and raise her children. Bessie was a woman of faith and a long-time member of the United Church of Christ, where she also was part of the Women’s Fellowship. She also was a member of Country Couples and the Michigan Farm Bureau. Bessie was a hardworking farmer’s wife. She was not afraid of getting her hands dirty doing whatever chores needed to be accomplished. Bessie was a very good seamstress, making her own clothes. She also liked gardening and canning much of the harvest from the garden. Bessie will be remembered as always putting her family first, while being a loving, giving, and kind hearted woman. She will be missed by many. Bessie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Raymond Young of Coldwater; her sons David Young of Tekonsha and Joe (Terri) Young of Vicksburg; 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 8 brothers and sisters. Memorials may be directed to the United Church of Christ or Southern Care Hospice. www.dutcherfh.com
