Betty R. Sowles, 84, of Marshall, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall. A private memorial service will be held at a later time. Visitation will take place from 4:00 until 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Betty was born April 25, 1933 to Woodrow Wilson and Gladys (White) Bailey in Charleston, South Carolina. She graduated from Rivers High School in Charleston, South Carolina. Betty married Eugene Sowles on April 13, 1952 in Monks Corner, South Carolina and he preceded her in death on September 14, 2010. She worked as a para-professional with Branch County Intermediate Scholl District in Coldwater for over 20 years but her true passion was being a home maker to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church in Coldwater and was a Sunday school teacher their as well. She enjoyed attending sporting events of her children and grandchildren, cooking, especially Sunday dinner of fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. Betty is survived by her sons; Tom (Denise) Sowles of Marshall, Mike (Jennifer) Sowles of Coldwater, Randy (Janene) Sowles of Coldwater and Mark (Stephanie) Sowles of St. Cloud, Florida, her 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and her sister, Barbara Clary of Batesburg, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene and her granddaughter Megan Sowles. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to Oaklawn Hospice Care in Marshall.
