Derek Gibson

Derek Eugene Gibson, 43 of Coldwater passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the Community Health Center of Branch County due to long-term health problems. The family will hold a memorial service at 1:00 PM, Friday, August 25, 2017 at Lockwood Community Church with Elder Dan Hefner officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Derek was born October 30, 1973 to Charles and Drenda (Houston) Gibson in Coldwater. He graduated high school and continued taking some college courses. Derek most recently worked at Coca-Cola as a sales representative before health issues forced him to retire. He also worked at Felpausch in Coldwater as a night stockman. On June 28, 2012 he married Cassandra Bates in Coldwater. Derek attended Lockwood Community Church youth group and later in life as a parishioner. He always put his family first in life. Derek enjoyed coaching, being his son’s coach in baseball, basketball, and soccer. He was a very competitive person, who was outgoing and friendly. He will be missed by many. Derek is survived by his wife Cassandra Gibson of Coldwater; his children Erika Bates, Dominnick and Adison Gibson all of Coldwater; his mother Drenda Woodard of Coldwater; his father Charles Gibson of Coldwater; his siblings Melissa (DJ) Pearson of Kansas, Douglas (Angelique) of Canada, and Matthew Gibson of Coldwater; his “adopted grandparents” Barbara & Roscoe Parks of Coldwater; several nieces & nephews; his good friends Brian (Annette) Gorny of Oklahoma, Kevin Lewis of Marshall, Anthony (Ann) Miller of Marshall and Joe (Cassie) Goebel of Coldwater. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Roy and Harriet Houston, Earl “Dutch” and Jean Gibson. Memorials may be directed to the family. www.dutcherfh.com
