Ronald Modert
Ronald Leroy “Ronnie” Modert, 78, was called home to join the Lord on Saturday, November 16, 2013 in Sebring, FL. Cremation has taken place, a memorial service will be planned at a later date. All will miss him dearly. He was born September 9, 1935, the son of Mathias and Mary (Mathews) Modert. Ronnie was a 1954 graduate of Bronson High School and had also served honorably in the National Guard. He married his high school sweetheart Janice Vorce on September 18, 1954, they enjoyed 59 years together. Ronnie was employed by the rubber plant in Burr Oak, Domestic Linen and Union Products which later became Creation Windows. His nickname was “Papa Smurf”, he would also refer to himself as “good looking Ron”. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, family reunions at Sand Lake in Nottawa, going to Sault Saint Marie, camping and spending time with family and friends. After retirement they traveled to Frostproof, FL to live for the winters. Ronnie and Janice enjoyed helping with plays and meals that were put on in the park that they lived in. His loving memory will live on in all who loved him. Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Janice, his children Michael and Dena Modert of Gobles, Arthur and Susan Greer of Charleston, SC, William and Krystal Bingaman of Three Rivers, Tim and Bev Modert of Bronson, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, sisters Janet (Fred) Schlautmann and Shirley Modert, both of Bronson, Thelma Root of Reed City, Norma (David) Diggins of Navasota, TX, brothers Randy (Darlene) Modert of Sturgis, Rolland (Linda) Modert of Bronson along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Mathias and Mary Becky Modert, brother Richard “Matt” Modert and brother-in-law Bob Root.
