Juanita Meriweather Obituary

Juanita Meriweather was born to the late Eddie D. Simpson and Mary F. Simpson December 5, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. To family and friends she was fondly known as “Neet.” Juanita married the late Albert Skinner and three children were born from their union: Albert Simpson, who preceded her in death, Yolanda Simpson and Zena Skinner. Juanita attended the Detroit Public Schools system. Fascinated with the culinary arts, she loved to cook food from scratch and took great pride in serving others what she had prepared. At an early age she found a love for singing, especially in the church choir, and continued sharing that gift throughout her lifetime. “Neet” was very feisty and loved to party, laugh and have a good time. Because she took pictures of everything, she was known as the family photographer. She enjoyed having small gatherings and parties with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Birthdays were very special to her. It was an opportunity to celebrate each person and give them their own special day. Juanita departed this life on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Lavernia Washington, Eddie Lee Simpson and Patricia Ann Simpson. Her memory will live on in her children, Yolanda Simpson and Zena Skinner, her six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
