Kathleen L. Hooker, a long time resident of Detroit, Michigan, transitioned into glory on Friday, May 5, 2017. She was born January 1, 1924, in Beaufort, SC to Mr. John Fraser, Sr. and Ms. Cassie Bush. Her brother, Mr. John Fraser, Jr. preceded her in death. Kathleen attended South Carolina State where she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. Sorority. She continued her education at Howard University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree. She also attended Wayne State University, Where she received her Master of Social Work in 1963. Kathleen worked for the State of Michigan, Vista Marie School, and the Detroit Public School Systems as a social worker until she retired in 1989. Kathleen loved sewing, baking, traveling, and quilting. She was a member of Presentation Our Lady of Victory Parish, where she served as a team counter and a member of the quilting club. She was a long time member of the “Bridgettes Bridge Club”. Kathleen was a woman of God that exemplified the lifestyle in all areas of her life. Proverbs 31:28 (a clause) “Her children arise and call her blessed” is the tone of her life amongst her family. She married James C. Hooker, Sr., who preceded her in death, in 1946. From this union, three children: James C. Hooker, Jr., Beryl A. Hooker, and Claire B. Hooker; two grandchildren: Karin Berry (Damon Berry - Atlanta , GA) and Vonteea Smith (Chris Smith); seven great-grandchildren: Quintex Copper, Quincy Terry, Dion Smith, Christian Smith, Damon Smith, Alex Berry, and Camyrn Berry; special sister and friend, Ms. Lillian Ragsdale, as well as, a host of additional family and close friends. Her favorite scriptures she used daily to set the tone for her life and instill in her children are Psalm 23 and John 14:1-4, Kathleen was the epitome of style and grace. Her personality, smile, and well-coordinated outfits always set the tone for any and every event.
