Reuben Taylor Detroit, Michigan Obituary

Reuben Taylor

Reuben Henry Taylor was born on May 7, 1927 to the union of Dollie Lee and Isaac Taylor in South Bend, IN. The family then moved to Macon, GA before settling back in South Bend. Reuben, affectionately known as Bubba, was the second of 14 children. Reuben enlisted in the United States Navy in September 1945, and was honorably discharged in December 1947. He met, and soon married, the love of his life Roberta Rose on December 25, 1954. They moved to Detroit, MI and started their family, which included four beautiful children. Reuben retired from General Motors after 32 years. After retiring from GM he returned to the workforce, working for Shoreline East for another 20 years before retiring once more. While a man of few words, his actions communicated his love. Reuben enjoyed his family first and foremost. He consistently attended the family reunions and enjoyed shuttling his grandchildren to school and other activities. He also enjoyed working on cars and other machinery, gardening, and fishing. His character was admired by many and duplicated by few. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rochelle Taylor; honorary son, Gregory Spann; great-granddaughter, Kortlynn; parents, Isaac and Dollie Taylor; brothers, Benner, Joseph, David, and Sanford Taylor; and sisters: Lena Beaver, Alice Milon, Ruth Johnson, and Grace Williams. Left behind to carry on his legacy is his wife of 64 years, Roberta Rose Taylor; children: Ramona (Stanley) Avery, Isaac (Bennettia) Taylor, and Rowena Taylor-Mills; grandchildren: Ayesha (Jason) Smith, Ayshiaki Taylor, Brandon (Louisa) Avery, Ayana Taylor, Subira (Juky) Louineus, Alyssea and Alexis Taylor-Mills; adopted as “granddad” to Nickie, Nina, and Stan II Avery; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Isaiah, Jameson, Charlotte, Xola, and Quest; sisters: Louise (Charles) Green and Mary Ann (Buford) Hilliard; and brothers: James (LaVonne) Taylor, Carl (Marilyn) Taylor, and Ben (Marlene) Taylor; and a host of other family and friends.
