Thomas Joe DeVoogd Obituary

Thomas Joe Devoogd, resident of Washington Township, died peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on July 13, 2020. He was 76 years of age.

Tom was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan on October 22, 1943, the youngest son of Jake and Minnie (Frikken) Devoogd. He was united in marriage to his loving wife, Linda Edith Lienau, on November 9, 1963 in St. Edwards Episcopal Church of St. Clair Shores. The couple made their home in Fraser and their union was blessed with three children. Tom had a wonderful personality, a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. His personality drove him to a career in sales and marketing. Tom was the proud owner and operator of A.C. Supply of Warren for over 30 years. He always lived life to the fullest with love and purpose. Tom loved the great outdoors; fishing, hunting and a great round of golf. He always looked forward to his annual hunting trip with Todd and going up to the cottage to relax and regroup. Tom also enjoyed woodworking and traveling with Linda. He was a former member of the Fraser Lions Club and was a very active member at Shepherd's Gate Lutheran Church. Above all, Tom was a man true to his word; he loved the Lord; was a faithful husband, a very proud father and an adoring grandfather. Tom will be deeply missed and his light will continue to glow in our heart forever. " I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."

Tom is the loving husband of 56 to Linda; dearest father of Todd (the late Michele) DeVoogd, Bruce DeVoogd and Jill (Jarrod) White; cherished grandfather of Alina, Renee, Ryen, Caitlynne, Lauren and Noah; dear brother of Gerald DeVoogd and Carol (Bob Godwin) Hurlong. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Sumner (Nancy) and Elmer (Avis) DeVoogd; sister-in-law, Viola DeVoogd and brother-in-law, Maurice Hurlong.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2020, at Shepherd's Gate Lutheran Church, 12400 23 Mile Rd, Shelby Charter Twp, MI 48315. The family will start receiving visitors at 9am until the time of service at 11am. Mask are required to enter the church. Service will also be live-streamed through Shepherd's Gate website. A luncheon will follow. A private burial will be held at St. John Cemetery of Fraser. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to Compassion Pregnancy Center, 37540 Gratiot Ave, Clinton Twp, MI 48036 or go to https://secure.egsnetwork.com/donate/5F3E2E2FF0704B8
