August A. Von Ins, age 94 of Holland, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
Mr. Von Ins was born in Holland Jan. 2, 1920 to Hans and Ethel Von Ins. He owned and operated Von Ins Grocery Store for many years, and later worked for Bay Casting. A Veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Von Ins served during World War II. He received the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was a part of the invasion of North Africa, Sicily and Italy with the 3rd Division. After recovering from wounds received in Italy, he was transferred to the 45th Division, fighting in France and participated in the Liberation of Alsace of Lorraine for which he received the French medal Croix De Guerre.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret (Van Ingen) Von Ins.
Surviving are his 2 sons, Douglas and Susan Von Ins of Goshen, IN, and Jeffrey and Sharon Von Ins of Fife Lake; 2 grandsons, Shawn Von Ins and Jeff Von Ins; step children Ricky Kimber and Diane Fowler; and many extended family and friends.
