Obituary for Cereta Veldhuis

Cereta Marie (Kane) Veldhuis, 92, of Holland, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Kairos Dwelling, Kalamazoo, with her family by her side.

Born in Three Oaks, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Burnice (Yaw) Kane. On October 8, 1949, she married Allen Veldhuis, who preceded her in death on February 10, 1988. Cereta will be remembered as a very? caring and easygoing person. She loved cooking, gardening, square dancing and especially enjoyed volunteering at the First United Methodist Church in Holland. Despite her diminutive size, Cereta played varsity volleyball and basketball for Holland High School. You couldn't find a bigger Tigers sports fan. She was a good cook, and loved being with family and friends, knitting and playing cards.

She is survived by her two children: son, Scott, his wife Shirley of Dearborn, and their daughters, Leanne and Laura; her daughter, Becky, her husband, Wayne Kruger of Portage, and their daughter, Allison; her three brothers, LaVerne, Alfred and Donald Kane of Holland, also survive her.

A memorial service will be at First United Methodist Church on 10th Street in Holland on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m., memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Cremation has taken place.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Springs at the Fountains of Bronson Place and Kairos Dwelling (Kalamazoo) and Southwest Michigan Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of our mother.

In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Cereta, memorial contributions may be directed to First United Methodist Church of Holland, Kairos Dwelling of Kalamazoo, Hospice of Southwest Michigan or a charity of your choice.
