Obituary for Donald Peter Stratton

Donald P. Stratton, M.D., age 85, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012 at the Hospice House of Holland.

Donald was an Eagle Scout in Highland Park, MI and a graduate of Highland Park High School in 1944 when he was only 16 years old. He then attended Wayne State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1948. He was a veteran of the Army serving for one year in 1946.

He graduated from Wayne State University Medical School in 1951. He was an intern at Highland Park Hospital in 1952 and a resident in radiology at Harper Hospital from 1953 to 1955. He first practiced as a radiologist at Ford Hospital in 1956, and then from 1957 until 1965 at Beaumont Hospital. In 1963 he spent six months at the Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York City where he trained to be a radiation oncologist.

He and his family moved to Muskegon, Michigan in 1965 where he worked for Hackley Hospital as a radiation oncologist until his retirement in 1982.

He was a member of the Muskegon County Medical Society and the Radiological Society of North America.

Following his retirement, he continued as a locum tenens physician in Oregon, Washington and Michigan.

Donald was a world traveler including one trip around the world in five weeks. He and his wife Patricia visited England five times. He enjoyed playing the organ and his interests included business and economics.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia M. Stratton, three children and ten grandchildren:
Kathleen Stratton and Robert Cebelak (John, Mark, Kate, Claire) of Holland, MI
Karen Stratton and Roger Golliver (Benjamin, Daniel, Aaron) of Beaverton, OR
Robert and Mary Stratton (Elizabeth, Patrick, Will) of Crown Point, IN
and cousins.

A private family service has been held at Lakeshore Memorial Services in Holland, Michigan, and a celebration of his life will be held every day.

Cremation has taken place at Rosedale Memorial Park and Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a local Boy Scout troop in your community.
