Edwin Frederick Woodward, 79, of Holland, formerly of Federal Way, WA, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, August 18, 2012.
Ed was born on January 24th, 1933 in Alhambra, CA, the second child of Edwin and Irene Woodward. He was an outstanding student in school and in 1955, received his Bachelor’s Degree from UCLA in Political Science. He soon married Mary Jo and began his professional career as a school teacher. He always said that teaching and working with children was his favorite occupation.
But after his first child, Randy was born in 1960, he sought to provide a better quality of life for his young family, so he began his 30-year career with Rockwell International (later, Boeing) in California as a Cost Analyst, working on the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. Daughter, Linda was born in 1963. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Cecelia, and began raising her son, 10-year-old Brett. In 1970, daughter Angela was born.
Ed enjoyed sailing, reading, travel and going to the movies. He was an expert on such topics as the American Indian Wars, The Zulu wars and Ancient Egypt. He loved eating Dungeness crabs he caught on the Puget Sound with his family, but his favorite food was Maine Lobster. Keep your hands and arms clear when that plate arrives!
His dream was to be an author and comedian and to cruise the Nile in Egypt. His family’s fondest memories of him include hours enjoying his intellect, quick wit and sense of humor. He was thankful for the wonderful people and healthy lifestyle he enjoyed during the last year at Oak Crest.
Ed is survived by his sister, Diane (Ken) Kreyenhagen of Saugus, CA; son, Randy of Gig Harbor, WA; daughters, Linda (Vince) Bush of Zeeland, Angela (Jeff) Harper of Omaha, NE; stepson, Brett (Angelica) Martin of Palmdale, CA; grandchildren, Melissa, Blake, Cody, Brady and Grant.
He has been cremated, and a memorial service will be held in Gig Harbor, WA.
