Obituary for Ethel Mae Poll

Ethel Mae Poll, age 74, of Holland went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at the Hospice House of Holland following a short illness.

Ethel was born June 16, 1936 to Herman and Gertie Jager, and was the youngest of eight. She grew up in the Holland area. In October of 1956 she married her high school sweetheart, Clyde Poll and has been a loving wife to him for the past 54 years. While raising her children she filled her home with love, faith, and laughter. Ethel enjoyed quilting, crafts, reading and collecting dolls. Especially precious to her were times spent with family and friends and she was a blessing to all who knew her. She was a committed woman of faith and a member of Faith Reformed Church in Zeeland. Ethel worked for many years in the kitchen at Zeeland Public Schools. Over the years she did much touring in the antique cars, and also enjoyed spending winters in Zephyrhills Florida. Ethel was a devoted
and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She leaves behind
many cherished memories.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters: Johanna Postma, Gladys Santora, Dorothy Hopp, and grandsons, Thomas and Curtis Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde and children:
Lynda and Greg Johnson of Coopersville, MI
Vernon and Marcie Poll of Zeeland MI
Douglas and Lucas Johnson, Jonathan Poll, Elizabeth Padron
Great grandson:

The family would like to thank the staff at the Hospice House of Holland for their compassionate care and support. A service celebrating Ethel’s life and home going will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 25, 2010 at Faith Reformed Church , 220 West Central Avenue in Zeeland. Reverends David Smits and Jonathan Elgersma will be officiating. Burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Lakeshore Memorial Service, 11939 James Street in Holland. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland or My Brothers House III c/o The Holland Deacons Conference. An online registry book is available at
