Obituary for Frederick H. Riley

Frederick H. Riley, Jr., age 88 of Genoa City, Wisconsin died early Thursday, May 15, 2008.

He was born on December 21, 1919 to Frederick Halmer Riley and Cora Belle Huff. He was raised in Muskegon before moving to Rochester, MI during his teen years.

Fred graduated from Rochester High School in 1939; he went on to receive his Engineering master’s degree from Rollins College in Orlando, Florida.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Air Force and continued in the reserves for 30 years. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel. He served in the 456 Bomb Group 15th Air Force (Steed’s Flying Colts) where they were stationed in Stornara, Italy. He was a bombardier and flew on 41 missions. He was also the historian and editor of the Flying Colt 456th Bomb Group (H) Newsletter.

Fred is survived by his daughter Laurie Riley and her mother Harriet Riley both of Virginia. A grandson David Matthew Riley of Indiana and a brother Jack Riley of Chelsea, MI

A funeral service with military honors will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Ever Rest Funeral Home 1783 East Keating Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. Burial will be in Laketon Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post #446 in Muskegon. Arrangements are by Lakeshore Memorial Services of Holland. An on-line registry book is available at www.lakeshorememorial.com for those who cannot attend the services.
