Obituary for Gene Gardner

W. E. “Gene” Gardner, age 83, of Zeeland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 07, 2012 at Providence Health Care.

Gene was a member of Rose Park Baptist Church. He was saved by his Lord Jesus Christ in the fall of 1939. Previously he was a Boys Brigade Leader at Fruitport Bethel Baptist. He served as Sunday School teacher at Calvary Baptist Church for many years, and was a Scout Master in Nunica, MI. One of Gene’s favorite pastimes was spending time with family and telling stories. He enjoyed coaching, playing softball, woodworking, fishing, camping, and coin collecting. Gene also volunteered for Holland Hospital and Meals-on-Wheels.

He was preceded in death by his grandsons, Michael Gardner II and James Gardner; brothers, Donald Gardner and Jimmy Gardner.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley

A funeral service will be 4:00pm, Friday, August 10, 2012 at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James Street, in Holland. Pastor David Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeshore Cemetery (Grand Haven).

Visitation will be from 3-4:00pm Friday, August 10 prior to the service at Lakeshore Memorial Services.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Holland or Rose Park Baptist Church.
