Obituary for Harold W. Timmer

Harold William Timmer age 86 of Brimley, Michigan passed away Saturday afternoon, May 17, 2008 at War Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 5, 1921 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Harold graduated high school in Grand Rapids, MI and went on to serve his country in the Army Air Corp. He went on to work with Lear Inc. where he helped create such things as the gyro systems in the first generation guided missiles, first drones for the military, and the first land to air missiles. He later worked construction for many years, focusing on commercial concrete construction. Harold was a charter member of several new church starts in the Grandville/Jenison, MI area for the Reformed Church. He was active as a Sunday School teacher, School board member, church consistories, and 4-H leader. Harold loved to sing with the Hiawathaland Chorus, and Monday Morning Singers at Long Term Care. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing.
Harold is survived by his wife: Margaret "Molly" (Shoemaker) Timmer, whom he married on August 6, 1943 at the First Reformed Church in Zeeland, MI, five children: Barbara (Gerald) Van Diepen of Sibley, IA, Richard (Julie) Timmer of Brimley, MI, Nancy (David) VanderZwaag of Holland, MI, Margaret (Michael) Weber of Redford, MI, and David (Mary Beth) Timmer of Zeeland, MI, 16 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers; Benjamin (Shirley) Timmer of Eckerman, MI and Russell (Carol) Timmer of Northville, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Benjamin and Margaret (Wiersma) Timmer, and a sister; Kathlyn Smith.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 " 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Faith Reformed Church 220 West Central Avenue in Zeeland. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM following the visitation hour with Rev. David Smits officiating. Burial will be at Georgetown Township Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Gospel Chapel - Missions. Arrangements are by Lakeshore Memorial Services. An on-line registry book is available at www.lakeshorememorial.com for those who cannot attend the services.
