Laverne 'Vern' Jay Wabeke, age 65, of Zeeland, passed away August 24, 2013 at his home in Drenthe.
His father James preceded him in death in 1992.
Vern worked as an excavator and carpenter. Vern volunteered for the draft in 1968 and served in Vietnam in the Army. He retired from Ron Meyer & Associates Excavating and was enjoying retirement. He had a fun sense of humor and loved his toys: tractors, motor bikes, guns, etc. Vern was an avid, and skilled, fisherman and hunter. He will be missed by his family, friends, coffee shop pals, and Harris Hoezee (whom he grew up with and fished and hunted with throughout retirement).
Vern is survived by two children: Tina (Joe) Thompson, Travis (Candice) Wabeke; and his granddaughter Makensie; mother, Betty Wabeke; two sisters, Norma (Earl) Overbeek, Carol (Virg) Statema; a brother, Jim (Sue) Wabeke. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Friday, August, 30, 2013 at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland. Burial will be in West Drenthe Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
