Obituary for Lorraine Agnes Lengkeek

God, in His mercy, made whole again Lorraine Lengkeek, age 81, of Holland. She passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, September 21, 2010 surrounded by her family.

Lorraine was a member of Harderwyk Ministries. She was born and raised on a farm in South Dakota. She moved to Holland, Michigan with her husband and children in 1952. Lorraine lived for her family, yearly reunions in South Dakota, caring for her children and grandchildren. She was known for her excellent baking, cooking, gardening and needlework, often winning ribbons with her County Fair entries.

Lorraine loved traveling with her husband, camping and enjoying the beauty of God’s creation. While hiking at Glacier National Park in Montana her husband was attacked by a grizzly bear. Lorraine remembered what her father had taught her on the farm that the nose is the most sensitive part of an animal. She twirled her large binoculars by its strap repeatedly hitting the bear’s snout and chased the grizzly bear away, saving her husband's life. This led them to travel the country telling of their “Miracle on the Mountain” for the World Home Bible League. She also did a Timex watch add, appeared on Oprah and did a documentary. The story was in Chicken Soup for the Couples Soul and many magazines. She was preceded in death in 2001 by her husband of 52 years, Deane Lengkeek and sister, Alice Doop. She loved her Lord, family and nature.

She is survived by her children:
Dianna and Stuart Harrington of Holland
Patricia and David Overway of West Olive
