Obituary for Macky Grief

Macky Sewell Grief, age 93, of Holland, Michigan was reunited with her loving family who had gone before her on Saturday, September 22, 2012. She courageously endured her final test as she struggled with dementia and many broken bones. She was loving, noble, unselfish and pure of heart until the very end.
Macky was born June 16, 1919 in Belton, Texas to her parents, Ulysses Grant and Martha Ethel Sewell. She spent her younger years in Belton and San Angelo Texas. She married John Ridler Grief in 1937 and moved to Midland, Texas and finished raising her family there. She graduated with the Vocational Nursing class in 1966 from Odessa College and worked as an LVN and then as a dental assistant for 16 years before retiring.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and performed service through volunteer work. She served a mission for her church in Arizona working with the Hopi Indians on a reservation. After her mission, she spent the next 25 years being a caregiver for members of her aging family until she needed to be cared for herself at age 89.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, Lorell Westbrook, Dorothy Morton, Sean Harmon, Virgie Hemingway, and step-brother, Dothard Soechting. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Jenny and George Perkins of Provo, Utah; John and Mary Grief of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and Priscilla and James Sanders of Holland, Michigan; 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Macky’s greatest works in life were serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, loving and caring for her family and blessing many lives with whom she came in contact. She lived with faith and optimism in spite of enduring many trials and hardships throughout her life. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
The family will receive friends for visitation at 6pm Tuesday, September, 25, 2012 followed by funeral services at 7pm at Lakeshore Memorial Services, Holland, Michigan.
