Obituary for Marjorie M. Walcott

Marjorie May Walcott, age 89, of Holland, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Inn at Freedom Village.

She was born and raised in Grand Rapids, the daughter of William N. and Irene De Young. She married Roger Walcott, also of Grand Rapids in 1947 and they raised 3 children in Flint, Ionia, Ferndale, Grand Rapids and Holland. Marjorie was a stay-at-home mom until the family moved to Holland where she began working at the old Van Zoeren Library on the Hope College campus while Roger was director of Herrick Public Library. She returned to Holland after his death in 1986. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Holland, an ardent Tigers fan, and is probably playing softball in Heaven right now.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roger; her parents, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Erwin and Ruby De Young and John and Martha De Young; in-laws, Gerald and Edith Walcott, Wynona and Wilbur Haumann and Richard Walcott.

She is survived by her children: Nancy (Vern) Yetman of Holland, Tom (Peggy) Walcott of Southfield, and Pam (Jess) Miller of Indian River; 6 Grandchildren: Chris (Christina) Yetman, Katy Yetman, Jef (Lauren) Walcott, Diana (Jeff) Reid, Max Miller and Alex Miller; 2 great-grandchildren, Keira and Nate. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara Stillwell of Grand Rapids and a sister-in-law, Eileen (Paul) Vander Meulen, also of Grand Rapids; numerous nieces and nephews.

According to her wishes, Marjorie has been cremated.

A memorial service will be 11:00am, Thursday, May 16, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 57 W. 10th Street, Holland.

Visitation will be from 10-11:00am Thursday, prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Herrick District Library, First United Methodist Church, or to Hope College.
