Obituary for Matthew Brian French

Matthew Brian French, age 43, of Holland, died unexpectedly on Monday, August 13, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Betty and Gene French. He is survived by his step mother, Sharon French, sister, Dana Upson (Chris), step brother, Jeffrey Weller (Tina), his ex-wife, Molly Parker, and his two children, Grace and Mason. He is also survived by his four nephews, David and Matthew Upson, and Ethan and Brady Weller.

Matthew was born in Royal Oak, MI and lived in Brighton, MI until 1978. He graduated from Quaker Valley High School in Sewickley, PA in 1986. He earned a BA in Fine Arts from Kent State University in 1991 and recently a teaching certificate from Grand Valley State University. He was married in Grosse Ile, MI in 2004 and lived in Holland, MI until his death. He was a gifted artist and worked as a freelance painter and illustrator. He also worked as an instructor at the Holland Area Arts Council and was honored to have several of his pieces displayed throughout Holland.

He will be greatly missed and remembered by those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be 6:00pm, Monday, August 20, 2012 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3990 112th Avenue, in Holland.

Visitation will be 3-6:00pm Monday, August 20, 2012 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
