Obituary for Paul Miller Jr.

Paul Miller, Jr. age 86 of Holland, formerly of Flint, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2013 surrounded by family.

Paul was born September 28, 1926 in South Bend, IN, to a family of musicians. The family moved from Pennsylvania to continue their grocery store business. He received his Bachelors and Masters of Music from the University of Michigan. While at Michigan, he composed music, marched in the 1948 Rose Bowl, and also conducted many shows for the University of Michigan’s Gilbert & Sullivan Society. He taught music and tennis in the Huron Valley School System in the Ann Arbor area for over 10 years. Paul then received his Law Degree (J.D.) from the University of Michigan and began working for the State of Michigan in Lansing in the Consumer Protection Division. He later moved to Flint, where he worked as an assistant prosecutor for more than 20 years. Paul conducted and composed music for community theatres, and played in the Plymouth Symphony for 40 years. He was an AYSO soccer coach, an avid reader, part of a writers club, and enjoyed playing tennis. Following retirement, he worked for a private law practice in Flint until he and Barbara moved to Holland in 2003 to be closer to family.

Preceding him in death was his wife Barbara Miller, a son, Paul Miller III, and a brother Joseph Miller.

He is survived by a daughter: Catherine and Dr. Christopher Fink of Holland; 3 Grandchildren: Joshua, Christina and Jonathan; and a Brother-in-law, Steve Bergonz, of Denver, CO.

Private graveside services were held at Summit Cemetery in Williamston, MI. The Rev. Dale Byers officiated.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Holland, and also Appledorn Living Center for their care while Paul lived there.
