Obituary for Raymond L. Ryzenga

Raymond L. Ryzenga, age 88, of Fillmore, MI passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Raymond was born on October 16, 1925. He worked for Holland Furnace and Holland Hitch Companies. In 1970 he purchased the farm adjacent to his parents’ farm and continued with a life time of farming. He was a member of Lakeshore House of Prayer.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Grace (Oetman) Ryzenga; brothers, Gerald, Julius, Gordon, Edwin and Ernest Ryzenga; and sister, Margaret Geurink.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie; son Philip and Kathryn of West Olive; daughter Nancy and Doyle Passmore of Glenn. He is also survived by sister, Lucille and Kenneth VanDam, and sisters-in-law Verna Ryzenga and Marilyn Ryzenga. Additional survivors include in-laws, John and Betty Zylstra, Glenn and Bonnie Zylstra and Joyce Piersma. Other survivors include 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren: Timothy and Melissa Ryzenga (Gabby and Logan), Jennifer and Nick McBain (Collin and Melanie), Daniel Ryzenga, Heather and Eric Mosher (Andrew and Jacob) and Kristen and Ryan Kragt. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Sally Michael.

Funeral services will be 11:00am, Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Lakeshore House of Prayer, 813 Lincoln Ave., in Holland. Rev. Doyle Passmore will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Saturday, from 10-11:00am prior to the service at the church.
