Robert Wayne Hoover ended his earthly journey on June 11, 2009 in Zeeland, Michigan. He was born in Bad Axe, Michigan on October 30, 1920.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patsy Ruth Hoover. Robert is also survived by his two sons; Scott and Lynn Hoover, Gary and Pam Hoover. Also grandchildren: Stephanie and Corey Schepper, Stacilyn Hoover, Shawn Hoover, Meryl and Michael VanLente-Vink, Adam Van Lente, Breanna and Rob Mais, Brett and Devon Hoover. Robert also had five great-grandchildren with another due on July 4, 2009.
Robert graduated from Bad Axe High, attended Alma College before serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He returned to receive his teaching degree from Central Michigan University and a Masters from the University of Michigan. He taught and coached for Zeeland Public Schools for 35 years and was inducted into the Zeeland Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. He also taught drivers education, drove school bus, directed Zeeland Summer Recreation, Saturday Morning Basketball, Youth Summer Baseball, also co-ran the Youth Center. He coached varsity baseball for 25 years, Junior Varsity Football, and Junior High Basketball. He was a member of Second Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and elder.
After retirement in 1981, he spent time hunting, fishing, golfing and sharpening skills at taxidermy. Robert especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 15, 2009 at Second Reformed Church 225 East Central Avenue in Zeeland. Dr. John Schmidt will be officiating.
