Obituary for Roger J. Brouwer

Roger J. Brouwer, age 80 of Holland, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Hospice House of Holland.

Roger was born in Forest Grove, MI November 28, 1932 to Anna and Don Brouwer. He was a generous, gifted, and well-loved member of the community of Holland. A career employee for General Electric, he worked as a quality controller, and upon retiring, took up house painting for another 15 years. Roger was an avid fisherman, generously sharing his boat and catch with family and friends. He is most known for his love of ballroom dancing, recently receiving a plaque recognizing his dedication to teaching ballroom dance to over 4000 people over a period of 30 years. During the last 4 years, he has been involved in helping his son Randy start up the “Building Men for Life” homes. He was a member of Faith Church, where he served as an Elder, Deacon, youth leader, sang in the choir, and set up and worked the sound system.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jan Smith (2005).

A memorial service will be 1:00pm Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Faith Church, 220 W. Central Avenue, Zeeland. Rev. David Smits will officiate.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 27 from 2-4:00PM and 6-8:00PM at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James Street, in Holland. A time of visitation will follow the service at the church on Thursday.
