Obituary for William N. Packard

Bill Packard (60) died Tuesday night at his home in Holland. Bill was born on February 15th, 1948 in Ridgewood, N.J. and was a graduate of Ridgewood High School. He attended Wheaton College in Illinois and earned his B.S. from Ferris State College.

Bill was a beloved teacher who most recently taught at Comstock High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He taught in the Zeeland Public Schools and the Career Tech Center before teaching in Kalamazoo. Over the years, Bill had a positive impact on the lives of many students and colleagues.

During his life he was an accomplished teacher, enjoyed an avid interest in the sciences and was a skilled volleyball player and coach. His gardens and love of animals were legendary. Bill always took time to help a friend and took pride in learning, teaching and philosophizing. Bill’s life touched many people.

He is survived by his mother Shirley Phillips Packard, of Amherst, MA. his father, William N. Packard Jr. of Deerfield Beach Florida; his step sons Donald and Richard Strabbing, of Holland Michigan; his brother Russell Packard, of Holland; his sister Patricia Packard Garmirian of Amherst, MA; his nieces, Jennifer Packard Garmirian and Lindsay Packard Garmirian of Amherst, MA. and his nephew, Noah N. Packard of Brooklyn, N.Y.
