Rodney Dale Shaffer, 72, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at his home in Custer. Rodney was born on October 3, 1944 in Muskegon, son of John and Rosalyn (Macksam) Shaffer. He graduated from Scottville High School. Rodney was a United States Marine during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1966. He retired from Great Lakes Energy as a Lineman, after 38 years. Every morning, you could find Rodney at the North Country Café, enjoying his iced tea and sharing stories. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved to cook, and was a good provider. Rodney is survived by his wife, Charity Shaffer; son, Michael Shaffer; step-children, Tina (Luke) Davis, Rayme Lanning, Andrew Lanning and Tony Lanning; grandchildren, Cody Shaffer, Cassidy Shaffer, Dawson Bigelow, William Gordon, Damien Lebrun, Raymond Lanning, Levi Lanning, Cheyenne Lanning, Kohle Lanning,Symphony, and other grandchildren; and sisters, Chris (Dick) Weinert, and Leola (Stan) Gajeski. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 5:00 pm at The CrossRoads Church of Custer, with visitation starting at 3:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Charity Shaffer.
