Jacob Bailey Hood Sr.
June 5, 1943 – September 29, 2011

Jacob Bailey Hood Sr. was born in Greenville, South Carolina on June 5, 1943. He was one of five children born from the union of the late Junior B. Hood Sr. and the late Anna (Jones) Hood. Jacob served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army. He later obtained a Chef’s Management Degree.
For many years Jacob was employed as an electrician by Detroit Edison Power Company. He was a member of the Utility Workers Union.
Jacob was very outgoing. He was a member of the Masons. Jacob was the kind of guy well known for his tell you how it is attitude. He loved to read, cook, and play games including chess, dominoes, and cards. Jacob was an avid traveler. He was a very intelligent man. Jacob always seemed to have an answer for everything. He was good and fair in his treatment of others. He was a history buff of sorts, and he amazingly knew the name and value compared to the United States dollar of every countries currency.
Jacob Bailey Hood Sr. age 68 of Monroe passed away at 7:45pm, Thursday, September 29, 2011 in the Emergency Department of Mercy Memorial Hospital. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by two daughters: Lavonda and Latecia.
Jacob leaves to cherish his memory a wife of forty-eight years: Ada Hood of Monroe; two sons: Jacob Bailey (Lori) Hood Jr. of Warren and Eric Hood of Monroe; two daughters: Daphne Hood of Monroe and Crystal Hood also of Monroe; two brothers: Henry L. Hood and Shawn Hood; ten grandchildren: Yavontae “Fatty”, O.J., Shannon, Brittney, Angel, Courtney, Jacqlyn, Ryekal, Ryan, and Chris; one great grandson: Isaac; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends may gather from 2:30pm until 8:00pm, Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am, Thursday, October 6, 2011 also at Merkle’s with the Rev. Alfred Overstreet pastor of Al Overstreet Evangelistic Ministries officiating. Cremation rites will follow.
