Adeline Thelen

Adeline D. Thelen Westphalia, MI Adeline Thelen passed away on September 4, 2013. She was born at home in Lebanon Township on April 10, 1923. She was a stay at home mom who dedicated her life to her husband and children. She managed the farm for 21 years after her husband passed in 1992. She was past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella, and a member of the Christian Mothers Women's Guild. Mom loved to bake and share cookies with everyone. Ellen Heckman said that they were the best cookies she ever had, not to mention her famous banana bread that all her grandchildren enjoyed over the years. On June 25, 1946 she married Linus Thelen, and he preceded her in death in 1992. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Edward and Antoinette (Simon) Schueller; sister, Sr Olivia (Marie) OSB; brother, Bernard Schueller. She had 9 sons, (most of whom stayed out of jail), and 1 daughter, Peter (Terrie), Paul (Sarah), Philip, Kevin (Dee), Ralph (Cindy), Daniel, Fred (Jewel), Steve (Michelle), Bernard, and Marianne (David) Kerr; 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters, Bernadine Martin and Gertrude Arens. She wishes to thank everyone who helped her in her declining health, including everyone at St. Johns Sparrow Hospital. Very special thanks to neighbors Roger and Bernice Thelen and Brian and Marla Thelen. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia, with Rev. Mathias Thelen presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. Thursday, and 3 p.m. Friday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made for Masses to be said, or to Divine Word Missionaries, P.O. Box 6099, Techny, IL 60082-6099, www.svdmissions.org, in memory of Adeline. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
